In 2018, Nike launched the “On Air” competition, designers from Shanghai, Seoul, New York City, London, Paris, and Tokyo were chosen to design a sneaker on an Air Max model of their choice. Eighteen finalists were then voted on by the public, with one winner chosen from each city. Gwang Shin represented Seoul, South Korea with this Air Max 97. Its black colour was inspired by Seoul’s night sky, while the translucent red and blue stripes and oversized Swoosh were inspired by the city’s neon signs. These 97s are so fire!
