In 2018, Nike launched the “On Air” competition, designers from Shanghai, Seoul, New York City, London, Paris, and Tokyo were chosen to design a sneaker on an Air Max model of their choosing. Eighteen finalists were then voted on by the public, with one winner chosen from each city. Cash Ru was chosen to represent Shanghai and created the Air Max 97 “Shanghai Kaleidoscope,” inspired by the “buoyancy and disappearance of clouds over the futuristic city of Shanghai.” The “Kaleidoscope” nickname comes from the way the clouds in the sky interact with the tall skyscrapers in Shanghai. These sneakers are crazy dope!
