Released February 27th 2021 alongside a “White Camo” colourway, the READYMADE x Nike Blazer Mid "Black" is Japanese designer and READYMADE owner Yuta Hosokawa’s first collaborative release with Nike. “To make it feel like READYMADE’s own remake, I broke apart the shoe first, and reconstructed it without any plan. The process was quite rough” said Hosokawa, “I was not trying to make it perfect at all, but looking for beauty in imperfection, something that looks like a nice clay model that you can feel the warmth of human touch. The midsole design is almost the same as the prototype I made with my hand”. Featuring distorted dimensions on a timeless silhouette, a DIY-inspired aesthetic retains the style's core DNA while adding a handcrafted feel to the Blazer Mid. Dripped in fabric overlays that pay homage to READYMADE's love for employing second-hand materials in pursuit of something new, this sneaker also features camouflage-inspired graphics and exposed foam inspired by polyurethane found inside a broken sofa, putting a fresh twist on the collar and tongue, while the midfoot Swoosh sports re-worked proportions that nod to an OG version of the logo from 1971. “RE” lettering can be seen on the tongue under classic Nike branding which stands for various words starting with re- such as retake and remake, while the shoe box is inspired by a garbage bin, and the graphics on the wrapping paper inspired by garbage. Underneath, an angular midsole is comprised of standard Nike foams and about 15% Nike Grind rubber, meaning the shoe utilises a collection of materials originating from manufacturing scrap and worn-out sneakers that would otherwise enter the waste stream. “I made this sneaker to inspire more people to think about environmental issues.” Says Hosokawa.
