It is tradition that on the fifth day of Chinese New Year all businesses may reopen. Nike takes inspiration from on this Dunk High with the traditional image of Zhao Gongming the "God of Wealth" in mind. Often pictured alongside a black tiger, Nike takes further inspiration this Lunar Year. Released February 4th 2022, the Nike Dunk High “God of Wealth” is dripped in premium nubuck suede while the Swoosh and upper are dripped in black satin fabric featuring a dark flower pattern - the concept is derived from the robe of Zhao Gongming. Chinese lettering can be seen on the left and right shoes that translate into “good fortune” and “ward off evil,” respectively (“招财” and “辟邪”). The tongue is shaped like a traditional Chinese purse with embroidery inspired by clouds and Chinese currency. Hidden embroidery pattern underneath the tongue feature three ingots, while the tiger pattern is a dominant design feature throughout. An amber sole is inspired the tiger’s soul, representing courage and vitality. The shoe comes complete with a golden shoe box with a dark tiger pattern. So fire!
