Released February 13th 2021, the Nike SB Dunk Low “Pink Pig” is inspired by one of the most iconic race cars of all time, the Porsche 917. With a top speed of 224 mph, a power output of 600 HP, and capable of doing 0-60mph in 2.7 seconds, the 917 won the German car manufacture’s first ever 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970. Porsche would go on to win a further 18 Le Mans races. An attempt to blend the best aerodynamic characteristics from both the short-tailed 917 K and long-tailed 917 LH led to the weirdest and rarest of the lot- the 917/20. The Coupe’s combination of a long body, stubby face, and wide hips gave it a pig-like look, which inspired Porsche designer Anatole Lapine to give the car this unique Livery -an “Atomic Pink” paint job – the car also featured butcher cut lines covering the exterior. Dubbed the “Pink Pig”, the 917/20 was a crowd favourite at the 1971 Le Mans race, with the car being the fastest in qualifying and nearly came in fifth place, before a brake failure caused it to crash before the finish line. There is only one specimen that exists today. Dripped in soft nubuck, the Nike SB Dunk Low “Pink Pig” is a dope colourway, inspired by a masterpiece of mankind’s engineering! So fire!
